Hilliard Children Recovering from Poisonous Snake Bites

Two children from Hilliard County are recovering after receiving poisonous snake bites.

The children, 2 and 4-years old, were playing in their backyard when they were bitten.

A doctor from Shands Jacksonville believes the recent wet weather and debris leftover from the hurricanes, may have something to do with the movement of many snakes.

There are a few things you should keep in mind when a snake bite occurs. First, head to a medical facility immediately. Second, do not tie off or apply a tourniquet. Third, do not attempt to suck out the venom. Finally, wear boots and/or long pants in snake prone areas.

Lunch Dates

On Monday Rich took me to lunch at Johnny Carino's and the food there was so awesome. I was really in the mood for noodles and so I ordered the Chicken Fettuccine in alfredo sauce. They make the alfredo sauce fresh when you order and you could really tell it was fresh. The bread we had with olive oil to dip was hot and fresh. Rich ordered a new dish on the menu and the meat was so tender with very strong flavors. For dessert we had tiramisu. I would have ordered a glass of wine but I had to jet to work right after we finished up. I'm really enjoying my lunch dates out with Rich. Last week he took me to a cute Japanese restaurant on Kingsley called Mana Kai and we had sushi, tempura and Katsu-don. Our lunch dates mean so much to me and it's great one on one time. I swear this man has me spoiled and I just love him to death.

Hurricane and Snakes

Well guys, I went into work at 11am and just got off at 4pm. They decided to close down central and send us all home early. They will still pay us for the entire day, but they wanted us to get home before the weather got bad. On my way home I seen so many flooded areas, and cops were in the streets blocking people from passing through the flooded streets. Also on the way home I seen a power line flickering and popping a really big bright pink color. I think it was being affected by the wind and trees around it and started popping really bright. That power line was right on the street into my APT. and so the traffic light was out. I turned the corner and the same trees that were down during Frances, where down again and I had to avoid one of them as I made my right turn. I counted 8 more trees along the way. I picked up Rich and we headed to Super Wal-Mart to get some chicken so he can cook teriyaki chicken and we battled the wind and the rain on the way into Wal-Mart. But that was not the excitement of the day. When we got back from Wal-Mart I ran into the house and I mean I was running fast to the front door, I stepped on a SNAKE. YUP, there was a snake at my front step and when I realized what I had just did, I SCREAMED so loud and I did this once as I stepped on him and then when I jumped back and realized it was a snake, I screamed again, bloody murder. I screamed so loud, that Hayleigh came out to see what was going on and we screamed, " snake, close the door". That snake would have went in the house if she didn't close the door. Well I had real good reason to scream because the snakes out here are poisonous and I have no idea which ones are or aren’t poisonous. I have on capri pants so could have had a nice bit on my ankle and thank god I was wearing close toe mule shoes. but with my ankle exposed and the backs of my heels, that could have been a nasty bite. Rich picked up a few sticks and scared the snake away into the little flower bedding right by our front door. I bet the snake is still out there, I wish I was able to take a picture of the snake. So that was the excitement of my day. ehhehehe. Now everyone is eating Ritchie’s wonderful. teriyaki chicken and Ill have to take a picture of that. We are very lucky to still have power, but millions of people are without power here in FL.

Weather Update

Well guys, I just got home from work at 7:30 and the weather outside is a little windy with sprinkles. The wind seems to be blowing in the same direction as the last hurricane and so the trees will all be bending in that same southeast direction. They say the weather is supposed to get worst by tonight and even worst tomorrow. We have the tub and sink full in one bathroom and I filled water bottles and put it in the freezer. We also put our refrigerator on the highest settings, just incase we loose power over night and that way every thing is nice and cold. Plus the frozen water bottles will also keep the freezer stuff cold and we have made tons of ice. Hurricane Jeanne is a catagory 3 and very close at 270 miles south southeast of Jaxs. They say we can expect conditions very similar to what we had with France, so that pretty much means trees down and power outages. We are very lucky that this storm will downgrade by the time she hits land fall. Check out some pictures from within the
eye of Jeanne

No avoiding Jeanne

Well guys, it looks like the pretty skies I posted yesterday will soon become gray and rainy. Hurricane Jeanne is on her way to us. Florida Times Unions front page today read "AGAIN?" with a picture of a huge hurricane churning in the Atlantic. I also heard that Governor Bush was all over the tube today. I was at work and all the buzz was about this hurricane and people once again trying to book rooms to flea the storm.

Off to bed

Okay, I've had a long day and I'm off to bed now. I have to work at 11-7 tomorrow and maybe the hurricane will stop us from working on Sunday. I really hope the weather is not too bad when I leave work tomorrow night. ;o(

Pink Tiger Stripes

Yesterday morning I took duke on his regular walk, and the sky was so pretty it looked like pink tiger stripes to me. The east coast does have the most beautiful sun rises.

Miannas school fundraizer

Miannas school is doing a fundraiser through www.jumbofund.com and they sent home the catalogs for
Love Never Melts.
Here is a look at the products for sale and if you place an order she will get the credit as well has her school.
Just be sure to use her name.
Student's Name: Mianna
Student's School: Thunderbolt Elementary
Student's School's City: Orange Park
Student's Teacher Name: Mrs. Patterson

This really helps out with friend and family that live so far away.

Mom and Daughter day

Yesterday was my day off and I was pretty much gone from the house all day. Mianna had no school, so we had fun mother and daughter day. First we headed to supper Wal-Mart and did some makeup and card shopping. I've have been real big on doing my own finger nails lateley, so I picked up some new polish and nail polish remever. Also while in Walmart I got a pedicure because that is one place I will not go. I have tried so many time to do my own toes, and I can never get it done right. I have been paying to have a pedicure for as long as I can remember and I doubt that I will ever get around to doing it my self. I would get my nails done too, but instead of that extra expense, I used the money to buy nail product and just do it my self and it comes out OK looking. If we are heading out on a real vacation or some special event, then Ill have both my toes and nails done. Mianna forgot I was going to have her do her toes and she had already cut her toenails too short and was wearing convers so she passed on getting a pedicure. I think she is going to become a regular pedicure girl, just like her mama. I still wish I could have someone come to the house to do our nails, with all our own tools and products. I've never met a nail person that travels to your home to give pedicures and manicures. After Wal-Mart we headed noth to Orange Park Mall in search from a place to get Mianna's haircut. She wanted to do some thing all drastic and cute, but since we are new to the area and really havn't found a good hair person yet, she oppted for a simple trim with a few layers. Mianna has really gotten use to her short hair style and I doubt she ever grows it back out. Well, out here it's really humid and I'm trying to get use to styling my hair and using different humidy blocker products. So yesterday I must have spent over 100 bucks alone on hair stuff. I just got all sorts of things to try. I got some humidity blocker hairspray and some of my favorite porducts like Biosilk and some new things to try by Martix and Aveda. We also dropped in the USPS that is right there in the mall and mailed out a gift box to Aoife and Davina for their Birthdays. After the mall we went to Burlington Coat Factory and I shopped around for some new tenny shoes, I found 3 pairs of shoes, but now I think I'll be taking them back today. I was just not satisfied with what I got. You all know me, and I like to buy quality shoes, yesterday I was stuck at the junk rack of clearance and ended up buying some cheap shoes that might just fall apart with one use. Anyhow, mianna was looking around at the purses but she didn't find one she liked. there were a few look alike coach bags, that attracted her eye, I think she will have better luck looking at the NEX, they have really cute bags there. After Burlington Coat Factory we headed off to Super Target and man I love this place, it's so huge and we did as usually, by grabbing some starbucks first off and then we hit the makup isle again. I got a cool nail kit that included trimmers and correction brush and a few buffers. Then off to the exerscise clothes, since that was what we came for. I found some really cute things to enspire me to keep working out at the gym and I will use one of outfits tonight when I take step class at 5 and then Yoga and pilates here at our basketball courts at 7-8. I havn't weighed my self in months, but I can tell that I have tightend up and i'm my abs are starting to show again, so Hayleigh and Rich say..... I'm not complaining, I just need to keep it up. Mianna has falling in love with Betty Boop and found some cute sleeping shorts and a big bag of starburst. It never takes too much to satisfy this girl. She is not a spender like her mama but she does have expensive tast, hmmmmm I wonder who she gets that from????? LOL.

Hurricane Ivan

My girl friend Adea, use to live in Pensacola and she had this up on her blogg.

Mens Socks and Underwear

* A fashion magazine runs a lavish spread that asks, "Are socks the new tie?" It features $85 striped varieties from Domenico Vacca, or subtle red plaid ones from Etro that cost $65.

* The Wall Street Journal reports on fast-rising sales of $68 cotton boxer shorts from Hanro. Men, the story contends, are beginning to want "underwear that fits just so."

* A clothes-conscious friend tells me that he has become obsessed by hosiery.

The last item got my attention.

Cold Out

I got up this morning at 6:45 and took Duke out on walk; I noticed that he didn't go taki and that it was kind of nippy out. Just 10 minutes ago, he came to me and got my attention by pushing my arm away from the mouse and putting his paws up in my lap, as if he is trying to shake hands with me. Usually this is a sign that he wants some thing bad. I know he has water and food, so when I got up from my chair he starting jumping in the air, and that usually means he needs to go bathroom. So I walked over to his leash that we hang on the doorknob, and he sniffed it. That’s another sure tell sign that he needs to go. It's really nice out, but it's actually cold. I felt like I needed to run back in the house and grab a sweater. The temperature in the am is usually that same as it is in the PM, but I guess the last day of summer is in a few days and it's starting to show here in FL already. People around here say it does get cold, so I'll probably have to break out my fall wardrobe and boots. :o) Rich took my car today and will have it all week, because he had to wear his dress whites to class all week long and didn't want to get stains on it, since his car seats are so old and grimy. I'm happy the weather is cooling down, so I won't sweat to death in his natural air-conditioned car. ehehehhehe. When my car was broke for a few weeks, I was driving his car everyday and I would be drenched from head to toe because the temperature would be like 100 in the car with the windows down. Today I might just need a light sweater to keep warm.

Orange Park Kennel

After I got off work today, I met up with Hayleigh at the movies and watched Vanity Fair. O man... I love that movie and can't wait to watch it again. I really learned a lot about how class and money played such a big role back in the day also, it was very heartbreaking with all the love relationships that were going on in the story. Reese Whither Spoon played a really good role.

After the movie we met up with Rich at the Orange Park Kennel and watched the grayhounds race and tried to understand the entire process that was going on. We placed a few bet of several different dogs, but only Rich was Big winner, winning a WHOLE BUCK sixty ...........LOL ehhehe. This was a very different scene for us. It was our first experience at a racing track and it was so exciting and fun. It was 25-cent night and so I ordered nachos and it was soooooooo goooooood. Hayleight ordered a hotdog and had fun dipping it in the awesome cheese dip we had for the nachos. I must say that most of my strategy for picky a dog, was based on the look of the dog and the name. Here are a few names of some dogs, For My Mama, Hollywood, BP (Big Papa) Needs Money Honey, Rock Star, Sudden Love, and Dark Shadow. I learned some dog lingo also, such as: win, place, show, quintera, and perfecto. Anyhow, there was just so much to learn and see, but we got by on just having fun and placing a few bets on random.

After we left the racetrack, we walked down to the oyster bar to get some French fries and just checkout the scene there, but there wasn't much going on so we headed back across the street and all drove home in our own cars. The reason for that was because hayleigh left from the house to meet me at the movies, as soon as I got off work and then after the movie Rich drove out and we all met at the racetrack. The racetrack was kid friendly but to me it just didn't seem right having kids around alcohol and gambling. This place was filled with all types of people and different families.

Ivan Producing Flooding Rains as Jeanne Heads Northwest

Another Hurricane.

Well guys, I'm sure you have been watching the news and keeping up to date on what's going on here in FL. We have been very fortunate that hurricane Ivan did not affect Jaxs at all. Our neighbors to the south and to the East were not so lucky with this hurricane. You will not believe it, but another one is on the way. Ugggg this one looks as if it will come to jaxs. It's only fare that the south the west and now the east. Oya, the middle was already hit too, so it's probably our turn to get hit by this next hurricane Jeanne. My list is really starting to narrow now.

Outback Crab Shack

Yesterday I was craving crab so baaaad.... So we decided to go to Outback Crab Shack. A coworker had suggested this place to me and that was over a month ago. This place was just so awesome. It's out in the woods, as I call it, in St. Johns County and it's just so pretty out there. We had to go south from our place and over a bridge to head into St. Johns. This restaurant was right on the river and was surrounded with so many huge trees that hand moss hanging from the trees. It's was just so beautiful out there and all the while I was kicking myself for not having my camera. We walled out on the pier and seen our first alligator. We saw about 6 of them, just swing along the topside of the water. We will definitely be back out there and I'll be sure to take pictures this time. They also had a sign out that said they have Manatee’s in the area. We didn't see any, but we sure did see lots of alligators. We had ordered this boiled seafood platter that was filled with crab legs, clams, crawfish, mushrooms, corn on the cob and it all had a spicy kick to it. MMMMMMMM, it was so huge and so GOOOOOOD!

Mommy and Mianna

Flowers

I talk to Davina today and she told me my grandpa is not doing so well. I have spoke with him a few days ago on my cell phone and I started to cry, he sensed it in my voice and said, " don't cry, your going to make me cry. I couldn't help it, I was trying to hold back my tears, but the emotions I was feeling inside, just had to come out. My grandpa started to cry on the phone with me and I told him that I love him and I wasn't ready for him to go. He said he wasn't ready to go either. It's just so hard, to deal with this, but I have been keeping it all balled up and it's starting to build up. I love my grandpa so much and he has always been there for us. He told me he was in no pain and that he loves me and wanted me to give Mianna and Rich a big kiss and hug. He is always concerned about us, and he did ask how we fared with hurricane Frances. That made me stop crying and we started to reminisce on how we had weathered all the typhoons on Guam. O man I’m crying now so bad and I’m at that point where I just have that deep burning in my heart.

I guess all I can do is just keep my memories alive in my head and to be thankful that I have had such a wonderful time with my grandpa. I have so many memories that stand out in my head. I still remember times when he would give Davina and me a roll of quarters to play packman at the bowling alley on Guam. I have so many memories that I'm thankful for and so many times that I wish I was just a little closer to home. I can't even pick out one single memory that is my favorite because all of the times with him were the BEST. Going to the movies every Saturday and watching the road pass under us, because my grandfather had a hold in floor of his old station wagon. He use to play Morris Code and I would just sit there and listen to the beeping and think how smart he was for being able to decode and under stand such a technique. I truly do believe he is such a geniuses and I'll try to pass on all that have in me about him. He will never die in my heart and Ill always keep him there.

I sent home some pretty flowers for both Grandma and Grandpa.

My friend Lorriane took this picture and she wrote.......

They just announced our county on the new. I'm so scared NOW!!!!!!. We are in the bedroom and our plan is to get in the closet as soon as we hear a train. Everyone has told us that a tornado sound like a loud train. I do not want Mianna in another part of the house, so she is here with me in the bedroom and we are watching the news closely. Man, this Sucks! We could mistake our upstairs neighbors for a tornado. They walk on the heavy side. ehehhehehe

Hurricane Ivan

Well guys, Frances is gone, but hurrican Ivan is out there brewing up a storm and I hope it takes a different path this time. All we need here is more hurricanes. We will know for sure by Thurday or Friday, what the path will be for Ivan. Once again, my hurrican list is starting to narrow. This site should look familiar to you you by now. Tropical Storm Frances

Well guys, Frances down graded to a tropical storm but she left a few people without power and lots of damage to trees and rooftops here in our complex. Last night on my way home from work around 7:30, the winds were so strong and the rain was pretty hard. The streets were lined with trees and branches as I drove to and from work. I saw the down trees in the dark last night, but this morning it's all that much more clear. Check out the pictures I took of parts of the roof on the ground and the trees that were uprooted from the winds. We had about 45-50 mph winds and lost power for about 1 hour last night. Frances is probably pounding the panhandle now. They say that if the winds pick up it will be hurricane status again.

Hurricane Ivan is on his way, this same time next week. I'm sure all of Florida is really starting to feel as if the hurricanes and storms will never stop. A few tornadoes can still develope in our area, so we have to be real careful.

Here are some really good pictures of what thing look like for the south east, as Fraces hit them today and is still moving very slowly towards us.

Calls for Support

Hey everyone, we are doing just find here in FL. Thanks for all your calls and support. I will try to call everyone that called, but if not, Ill hope you all check my blogg to see this message. Tonight is when we will start to feel the effects of Frances. I just hope we can keep our power. We will defiantly have some heavy rains and some winds. Frances is now a category one, but because she is so huge and moving at about 5-7 mph, it's such a slow pace and that is enough to cause lots of rain and flooding. Our neighbors to the south in Palm Beach were not so lucky and are without power as we speak. I have a coworker whose parents live there in Palm Beach. All day at work I was booking calls for people who have evacuated from the south and are now in the jaxs area, trying to stay at the Navy Lodge. Surprisingly we had lots of rooms. There were also a few cancellations for the Pensacola lodge, sine they will be hit by the hurricane also. Right now it's so calm outside. I just took Duke on a walk and once again, like when Charlie was out, it's that weird calm and very dark skies. Mianna's school was closed on Friday so that the school could board up and move in its supplies. Rich had to secure all his equipment at work and we covered up our computers today. I do work tomorrow as normal, but if it's just crazy out, or we have no power, then I will be staying home with the family. Rich also works tomorrow at 7. I'm going to get of this computer now and fill the tubs with water and the sinks. I have made lots of ice and we have tons of water supply, batteries, and flash light and emergency supplies. I check on the NOAA website and Ivan is a tropical storm for now, in the same path as Frances. O man, will this be the most active season or what????? Crazy FL weather but I still love it here. We will keep you all posted and up-to-date.

The Village

I forgot to tell y'all we went to the movies yesterday after Rich got off work and we watched The Village. I was expecting it to be really scary but it had it's moments. For the most part it was a love story about courage. I though it was ok, but Rich really like it. I would call it a girl flix. LOL.

World News

Tragedy among friends

Just a few days ago, I talk to Ron and he informed me that our friend Katrina found her boyfriend dead in bed. They live in a small one-bedroom studio and had been sleeping all night together on a futon bed, when she woke up and he never did. I guess she figured some thing was wrong when she couldn't wake him. The autopsy showed that he died in is sleep of a brain aneurysm in the brain. We have known Katrina for some time now and she is very close friend with Ron and Davina. It's such sad new. This was her boyfriend of 5 years.

My girlfriend Adea is also a fellow blogger and she just informed me yesterday that Tricia’s x-boyfriend and father of her daughter is in jail. Here is the link to the article she posted on her blogg.

Ingrid and Virgi back in the day

Future moms

I'm a mom and Ingrids a godmom

Ingrid is on her way to becoming a mom

Good blend

Now I'm just sipping on a really good glass of red wine. We discovered this wine while living in Lemoore at a local wine shop. It's a blend of 3 different wines and it's very very good. I opened the bottle last Saturday and it's been sitting in the fridge. Normally red wine is served at room temperature, but this one is good when it's just chilled a little. So when I want a glass I poor it and let it set in the glass and breath for about an hour and then it's just the perfect temp to drink. Ill be all relaxed and ready for bed. Oya, by the way I had and awesome 50-minute massage and Ill be back same time next week..... Same bat time, same bat channel. LOL

Pancit for dinner

Most of you know I love to cook and since I had the past 2 days off, I made beef and broccoli yesterday and today I made shrimp pancit. MMMMMM. I chopped up fresh green beans, cabbage, green onions, fresh garlic and used pre chopped julian style carrots, which were a big time saver. I usually chop that up by hand, but when I seen a precut bag in the store, I was stoked. I some times use beef instead of shrimp, but we had the beef thing going on yesterday so I decided to use shrimp.

September 1st.

Yesterday the sky was just so crazy looking. It sounded as if someone was beating on some huge drums in the sky and the lightning was so sporadic and at times it seemed as if it was right above my head. One half of the sky was sunny and pretty, while very close by the other half was gray and dark. It's so strange to see two extremes going on at the same time. You could sit at our pool and be on the left with the shade and dark clouds or be on the right with the sunny shining in her eyes. Only in Florida do we have this wacky weather.
